As the world celebrates the 2024 World Press Freedom Day, Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has lauded the crucial roles of media practitioners in sustaining democracy, vibrant civil society, and functional systems.

Hon. Aiyedatiwa commended journalists for their unwavering commitment to the tenets of the profession for the betterment of the country.

“The administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa heartily felicitates and congratulates the entire media community for their immense contributions towards nurturing democracy to maturity in the country”, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Wale Akinlosotu said in a press statement issued today.

According to the statement, Aiyedatiwa led administration is a media friendly government that will continue to protect all journalists in the state and promote responsible journalism.

While underscoring the critical roles of journalists in raising awareness on sustainable environment, the Governor reaffirmed his commitment towards upholding press freedom, protection of journalists with a view to promote unhindered access to information for transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The Governor who stressed the need to provide enabling, freer and more pluralistic media environment that will bring about constructive engagement among all stakeholders for a free, fair and inclusive society, called on media practitioners to be objective in their reportage.

Calling on all media proprietors to redouble efforts at providing conducive and friendly environment for objective journalism, Akinlosotu quoted Governor as saying that the theme of this year’s celebration “A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of of the Environment Crisis” attested to the fact that proper attention must be paid to the environment.

The Governor, however, wished all journalists in the state sound health and fruitful efforts at building a strong Ondo State.
