Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School Akure showcases cultural heritage at 2025 world mother tongue day

Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, came alive with vibrant cultural displays as it marked the 2025 edition of World Mother Tongue Day under the leadership of its Principal, Dr. Mrs. Temitope Omobola Ojoge.
The event, which celebrated Nigeria’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity, attracted notable personalities who added color to the occasion.
Speaking to journalists, Dr. Ojoge underscored the importance of the event in preserving indigenous languages and traditions for future generations.
She described the day as a significant opportunity to reaffirm cultural identity, in line with UNESCO’s mission of safeguarding linguistic heritage.
She further highlighted the role of language in human existence, referencing a biblical perspective: “God used language to create the world, and it remains a defining feature of humanity. Embracing our native languages strengthens the foundation of learning and education.”
Dr. Ojoge also called on parents to take an active role in passing down their mother tongues to their children, emphasizing that fluency in indigenous languages enhances academic success and provides a deeper understanding of the world.
