Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has appointed Comrade Chinedu Ukatu as a member of its Committee for the Crafting of the Igbo Charter of Demands, an initiative aimed at harmonising the expectations of the Igbo people from Nigeria and outlining their contributions to national development.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated January 15, 2026, and signed by the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta-Mbata.
According to the letter, the committee was constituted to articulate the collective aspirations of Ndigbo and identify critical issues affecting the socio-political and economic wellbeing of the Igbo nation.
Ukatu and other members of the committee are expected to draft the Igbo Charter of Demands document after engaging relevant stakeholders and gathering inputs across Igbo communities.
The assignment, Ohanaeze stated, is to be concluded within a two-month timeframe, after which the final document will be presented to the leadership of the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation.
Ohanaeze further noted that members of the committee are required to work collaboratively to ensure consensus and clarity in the charter, which is expected to guide future engagements with the Nigerian state.
The inauguration of the committee has been scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2026, and will be held virtually at noon.
Ohanaeze congratulated Ukatu on the appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to the successful delivery of the assignment.
