By Tolulope Eniola
The Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) in Ondo State, Chief Pius Akinyelure, has called on leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remain united and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the GAC meeting held in Akure, Akinyelure described the gathering as significant, being the first since the party’s recent primaries, adding that it was aimed at fostering reconciliation and preserving the unity and progressive ideals of the APC in the state.
He noted that although political contests and differing opinions were inevitable in a democratic setting, the party’s strength had always been its ability to resolve disagreements through dialogue, mutual respect, selflessness and sacrifice.
According to him, the unity of the party remains its greatest asset, stressing that members must place the collective interest of the APC above personal ambitions.

Akinyelure said the forthcoming 2027 general elections would require greater collaboration between the party and the government, recalling that Ondo State delivered the second-highest percentage of votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
He urged party leaders to work together to improve on that performance and secure an overwhelming victory for the APC in the next general elections.
The GAC Chairman also commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his administration’s performance, acknowledging the progress made since he assumed office.
While appreciating the governor’s efforts, he noted that more could still be achieved with the continued support of the people of Ondo State.
He assured the governor of the Advisory Council’s support and guidance in advancing the administration’s developmental agenda.
Akinyelure further appealed to party leaders to reject division, bitterness and unnecessary rancour, saying history had placed on them the responsibility of safeguarding the future of the APC in Ondo State.
He expressed confidence that with God’s guidance, the wisdom of party elders, the commitment of Governor Aiyedatiwa and the loyalty of party members, the APC would remain stronger and better positioned for future electoral success.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Akinyelure said the leaders unanimously endorsed Aiyedatiwa as the APC leader in the state.
He added that the meeting reviewed issues affecting the party and expressed satisfaction that necessary adjustments had been made to strengthen its unity.
Former Ondo North Senatorial District representative, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, said the meeting resolved to support the governor and ensure that all party members recognised him as the APC leader in the state.
Boroffice described Aiyedatiwa as the institution representing the APC in Ondo State, adding that the leaders resolved to intensify efforts towards Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 and improve on the state’s performance in the last presidential election.
He disclosed that the leaders would engage the APC national leadership to reaffirm their solidarity and communicate that Aiyedatiwa represented the party in Ondo State and should be carried along in matters concerning the state.
Also speaking, APC South-West Vice Chairman, Dr Isaac Kekemeke, said over 30 party leaders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to Tinubu’s re-election and resolved that all support groups should operate under Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
Kekemeke urged the national leadership of the party to involve the governor in all decisions concerning Ondo State, stressing that as the elected governor, Aiyedatiwa remained the recognised leader of the APC in the state.
On a list reportedly released by the party’s National Executive Committee, Kekemeke declined further comment, saying the matter was being handled internally.
