-Veteran Singer, Evang. Niyi Adedokun, Laments Rot, Ungodliness in Gospel Music

In what has been likened to Jesus Christ visiting a city, there was rejoicing and miracles galore in the ancient town of Akungba Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State a fortnight ago as the Christ Apostolic Church, Victory Chapel, held a three-day Miracle Revival in the town.

In addition to miracles of healing from diverse ailments, there were altar calls where many gave their lives to Jesus and publicly renounced their ungodly ways. 

Preaching at the crusade, renowned gospel musician, Evang. ‘Niyi Adedokun of ‘won kilo f’olode’ fame, said the theme of the prayer meeting, ‘Come Out From Among Them,’ is apt for all Christians and those desirous of positive changes in their lives.

He urged the crowd to desist from all forms of idolatry and to come out of all forms of ungodliness and acts not found in Christ. He later led prayers for deliverance and God’s blessings on the people, the land and the nation at large.

Preaching on the second day, the Assembly Pastor who is also the District Superintendent, Pastor P. B. Olajide, told the people that the journey of life would be easier if the people would choose to forgo all unrighteous acts and focused only on the Almighty.

He told the gathering that the crusade was exclusively for soul winning and not set up for profit making, thus the decision not to take any offering under whatever guise.

Quoting copiously from the Bible, Pastor Olajide, posited that with God all things are possible provided the people do not go back to their evil ways. Thereafter, he prayed for the people to receive the strength to live without sins.

The crusade was graced by clerics from the Christ Apostolic Church denomination and several others, in addition to religious and traditional rulers including the Alakungba of Akungba, Oba Gbadebo Aremo, invited choir groups and many others from all walks of life.

The crusade was rounded off with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 19, 2023 in the church auditorium.

Meanwhile, the veteran gospel artiste, Evangelist Niyi Adedokun has lamented what he called the rot and ungodliness that have taken over the gospel music scene in Nigeria.

Speaking on the sideline of the crusade, Evangelist Adedokun said today’s gospel music lacks divine inspiration and panders more to the flesh than the spirit of the listeners.

Adedokun, who is famous for his dexterity on the accordion and hit tunes like ‘Won kilo f’olode,’ and ‘Bi e ba n’seka, e ronu esan,’ said the spirituality of gospel music appears lost today and has been replaced by worldliness and appeal to human flesh and tastes.

In his words, “Decades ago with Mama Bola Are, Sola Rotimi, and myself, we often shut the doors to embark on fasting and prayers to seek God’s face before waxing an album as we were more concern with songs that are spiritual messages rather than mere music.

“What we have today are mere noise that do not often touch the spirit. We now have so called gospel musicians who copy American pop stars in appearance, lyrics and dance steps. What many called God’s presence today is nothing but the razzmatazz of dazzling stage lights and energetic dance.”

He called for a revival of old Biblical values among those into gospel music or those aspiring to take to it in order for their music to minister as rather than to merely entertain.

According to him, any gospel music that fails to minister Jesus and preach godliness has failed and should not be regarded as gospel but secular music.
