The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has reaffirmed the institution’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the integrity of its academic programmes, staying true to the vision set by its founders 25 years ago.

Speaking at a press conference announcing the 13th convocation ceremony of the university, Prof. Ige highlighted the university’s dedication to advancing academic excellence and fostering an environment conducive to research and innovation.

He emphasized that AAUA has focused on five core pillars: promoting cutting-edge research, implementing merit-based admission processes, hiring staff based on qualifications, supporting young academics in pursuing advanced degrees both locally and internationally, and continuously providing professional development for both academic and non-teaching staff.

These strategic measures, according to the Vice Chancellor, have positioned the university as a leader in higher education. This is reflected in the university’s consistent achievement of 100% accreditation for its programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Currently, 13 programmes are undergoing accreditation, and the university is thankful for the support of all its stakeholders.

Prof. Ige noted that this year’s convocation holds special significance as it coincides with the university’s 25th anniversary.

In celebration of this milestone, the foundation-laying ceremony for a multi-million-naira Hall of Residence Project will be conducted by the Visitor to the University, Governor Aiyedatiwa.

During the 13th convocation, a total of 6,837 graduands from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions will receive their degrees, including 657 postgraduate students, 46 of whom have earned their Ph.D. degrees.

Among the 6,182 undergraduate students, 62 will graduate with First Class Honours, while 1,941 will receive Second Class Honours (Upper Division), 3,486 will be awarded Second Class Honours (Lower Division), 684 will receive Third Class Honours, and 8 will graduate with a Pass degree.

The university will also confer honorary degrees on several distinguished individuals, including Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Adegboyega Adeyemi Adefarati, Member of the House of Representatives for Akoko South East/South West Federal Constituency, and Mr. Hazmat Ayodele Subair.

The convocation week will feature a range of activities, such as research exhibitions, a friendly football match, an Anniversary Lecture delivered by Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, and the AAUA at 25 Awards Ceremony.

In addition, the 25th Anniversary Inter-University Debate, Graduands Cocktail, and a Convocation Lecture by Prof. Dipo Kolawole, former Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, will take place during the week.

Prof. Ige also highlighted that over the years, AAUA has continued to be a center for a vibrant blend of intellectual, cultural, and athletic activities.

The university has recently been granted approval to host an American Corner, following a successful application last year.

US delegates who visited the university were impressed with its facilities, and the American Corner is expected to become operational in January 2025.
