Students of The Apostolic High School, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, on Thursday participated in the school’s 2026 Annual Inter-House Sports Competition amid fanfare and celebration of unity, discipline and sportsmanship.
The event attracted students, parents, alumni, education stakeholders and community leaders, who gathered at the school premises to witness the colourful sporting competition.
Speaking at the event, the Principal, Mrs Falilat Folayan, expressed gratitude for the successful organisation of the competition, describing the occasion as a significant milestone in the history of the school.
Folayan, who noted that she is the first female old student to head the institution, said sports play a crucial role in the overall development of students beyond academics.
According to her, sporting activities help instil discipline, resilience, teamwork and emotional strength in students while also promoting social cohesion.
She also commended members of the TAHSIM Old Students’ Association for their continued support towards the development of the school.
Folayan highlighted several projects facilitated by the alumni body, including solar lighting installations, provision of modern library furniture, construction of an administrative block, renovation of the school hall and donation of lockers and chairs.
She appealed to stakeholders to sustain their support through financial contributions and donations of sporting equipment to further enhance the institution’s facilities.
In his remarks, the National President of the association, Dr Gabriel Olufemi Aladegbaye, who served as Chairman of the occasion and patron of the White House, described the inter-house sports as an important platform for fostering unity and healthy competition among students.
Aladegbaye urged the participants to compete with integrity and maintain good character, stressing that discipline and respect for rules are as important as victory in sporting contests.
He also commended the leadership of the school and the commitment of teachers to nurturing the talents and character of the students.
The alumni leader further called on old students across the world to continue supporting the institution to sustain its legacy of excellence.
The competition featured various track and field events, with students demonstrating athletic skills and teamwork, while parents and guests cheered the participants.
The event ended on a celebratory note as participants and spectators applauded the students’ performances and reaffirmed their commitment to the growth and development of the school.
