Cooperate with govt to ensure relative peace – ODHA tells NURTW

Ondo State House of Assembly has admonished the State Council of the National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to continue to cooperate with the government to ensure relative peace and safety of the people.

The House Committee on Public Utilities and Transport led by its Chairman, Barrister Stephen Abitogun gave the admonition during a visit to the State Secretariat of the union in lgoba,Akure .

The Chairman of the Committee who harped on the need for private -public relationship to fastrack development , acknowledged the importance of the NURTW in driven the transport sector.

He commended the present Chairman and other executive of the union for displaying high level of maturity and composition since assuming office,evidend in the peace and unity among the union.

Abitogun noted that no private organization exists without a relationship with the government and supervisory power, charging the union to ensure maximum synergy and cooperation.”Government is the owner of parks, while you are the users”.

“You are a major partners in the security architecture of the State therefore, don’t allow intruders to come in through transportation,ensure proper scrutiny of passengers and luggages to strengthen the system”.

The Vice Chairman of the Committee,Chief Olatunji Oshati also stressed the need for concerted efforts and cooperation in boosting the union activities, promising legislative backing in achieving the set goal.

Others members urged them to continue with the newly laid down legacy for a better union and ensure training of members across the State especially as election is approaching for a peaceful, free and fair exercise.

The State Chairman of the Union , Comrade Ademola Odudu who reeled out their activities and challenges informed that the major challenges is infrastructure.

He explained that members welfare has been taken as priority with dilapidated infrastructure being renovated since inception, adding that other States in the Federation are now emulating Ondo State Union due to the relative peace and harmony within them.

According to him , since he came on board,he has not increase tickets, despite increment in fare,assuring that he is in the office to work and change some narrative.

While saying that the new executive has been pressing for mass transits from the government,he added that they have been assured of putting it in the next budget.

He therefore sought for the house support in boosting the sector, promising not to relent in doing the right things..

Earlier, while welcoming the Committee, the State Secretary of the Union,Alhaji Amosa Adebayo said that the union recognised the critical roles the utility Committee played in ensuring effective delivery of essential services to the Citizens.

He posited that the interaction offered an opportunity to share experiences, challenges and suggestions to improve the transportation sector.

He believed that the collaboration between the legislature and key stakeholders in the union is vital for policy formation and implementation.
