The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Apapa Port Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, has reaffirmed the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi’s, zero-tolerance stance on smuggling. Olomu lauded the CGC’s efforts in launching various trade facilitation initiatives, including the Advance Ruling, Time Release Study, and the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) programs, all of which are being effectively implemented to boost Nigeria’s economy.

In a press release issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Usman Abubakar, the CAC highlighted the significant progress made through consistent engagement with stakeholders. This collaboration has bolstered compliance, leading to a notable reduction in smuggling activities around the Apapa Port.

Key strategies such as strict cargo monitoring, comprehensive profiling of port users, and continuous sensitization of stakeholders have played crucial roles. Additionally, the training and retraining of customs officers have enhanced the Command’s efficiency, contributing to the impressive collection of N1.6 trillion in revenue.
