Electricity, Strategic Tool For Devt Of Nation – ODHA

Ondo State House of Assembly has said that Electricity is a strategic tool for the development of the national.
The chairman, House committee on Public Utilities and transport and other related matters, Hon. Stephen Abitogun stated this during a familiarization visit to Ondo State electricity board.
He said “the board is a very strategic one to the development of our industry and even social life because light is life, without light, you hardly can achieve anything in life”.
He commended Governor Akeredolu for his efforts in ensuring that life is meaningful to the people of Ondo State, he also commended the efforts of the commissioner for putting the board on the right track of their functions, adding that the team are very responsible.
He pleaded that a team be set up to examine the gray area of the electricity law that will be of benefit to the state, noting that the board should come up with activities that will be more impactful on tax payers.
While assuring the board of the Assembly’s legislative supports, he advised them to always let the Assembly know when they are embarking on a community project.
Other members enjoined the board to be more focused, change their approach to work, as high level of performance is expected from them.
Earlier in his address, the Commissioner for Energy and mineral resources, Engr. Rasaq Obe stated that the functions of the board includes providing and distribution of power supply to the books and crannies of the State.
According to him, the issue of electricity is as critical as the road and other infrastructure, stressing that the board will soon embark on distribution of power where there’s none.
He said “Ondo State is poised to become a State where we have total control of our power solution, in the next three to five years, we will be a State that of all worries, electricity won’t be one”.
“We are making projection to have power that will cater for population growth for the next three to ten years”.
He, however, solicited for strong support from the lawmakers so that the efforts of the board would come to frutition.
