Gov Aiyedatiwa approves new water, sanitation projects

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the construction and Channelization of portable water supply project.

The Governor, while addressing stakeholders at the urban water reform and Akure water supply, sanitation project held at the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) event hall in Akure, on Tuesday, solicited for the cooperation of the people of Ondo state, security agencies relevant ministries.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said aside the provision of portable water for the people the project would also provide job opportunity for skilled workers, beauty the state with the construction of modern toilet facilities at strategic places to ensure proper hygiene.

The governor said “This project is not just about providing clean water but also about transforming our state. We need the support of every resident and stakeholder to make this initiative successful. It’s a comprehensive effort that aims to improve hygiene and create job opportunities.”

“We are committed to not only delivering safe and clean water but also enhancing the overall environment of our communities. By installing modern toilet facilities in strategic locations, we aim to promote better hygiene and make our state more beautiful,” he added.

Aiyedatiwa concluded by emphasizing that the project’s success hinges on the collective efforts of all stakeholders and citizens. He noted, “This project is a testament to what we can achieve when we unite and work together for the betterment of our state.”

During his welcome address,the commissioner for water resources, public sanitation and hygiene Mr Sunday Akinwalire appreciated the governor for approving water project stressing that the problem of unavailability of portable water for over thirty years has been solved.

Mr Akinwalere noted that the water Channelization project is targeted at five hundred thousand houses and two million individuals.

Narrating the technical process of the project, Mr
Kehinde Adebayo said all mechanical equipment, treatment plants,storage facilities, pipeline that have been abandoned would all be repaired and put to work as soon as possible.

Also, another project and sanitation consultant Mr Alaanuloluwa Obaise said that the first phase of the project would cover all local government and communities in the central senatorial district of the state which includes Akure south,north,Ifedore, Ile-oluji/Oke-Igbo, Ondo west among others.

On his part, chairman grievance and dispute committee Mr Solomon Adelegan assured the people that all affected persons, structures have been contacted for the commencement of the project in their locality.

The event had in attendance: The Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetiyinbo, various traditional rulers, political appointees, and other stakeholders involved in the water project.
