Akoko Indigenes Demand Increment In LCDAs, Condemn Marginalization

Indigenes of Akoko has demanded for an increment in the Local Council Development Areas given to them.
Addressing the newsmen at a press conference held at NUJ press center in Akure, the President of Akoko Consultative Forum (ACF), Pa Lawrence Ibukun Rogbitan, the 4 Akoko LGAs were allocated 9 LCDAs while Owo and Ose with Only 2 LGAs were allocated 8 LCDAs, stressing that 2 is equal to 8 and 4 is equal to 9.
According to him, the total population of Owo and Ose is 363,787 and the 4 Akokos has 701,113.
He said “the implication and intending fallout of the purported exercise id aimed at subjugating, marginalizing and killing Akoko politically and put the Akokos in perpetual bondage in the scheme of things compare to Owo and Ose within the same Ondo Senatorial district.
He added that other areas of unfair testament of Akokos includes neglect of roads in Akoko land by the state government, unfairness in the upgraded Obaship position in Ondo State in recent time, among others.
“As much as we support Ondo State government’s vision and mission you create new LCDAs in the state, we demand for 16 LCDAs in Akoko as follows : Akoko North East, 4 LCDAs, Akoko North West, 4 LCDAs, Akoko South East, 3 LCDAs and Akoko South West, 5 LCDAs.
The group requested the government of Ondo State to complete Ikare – Ajowa road and interface on Akugba- Oka- Ishua – Ibilo road, as Owo- Ikare road requires attention. Also, upgrading of deserving Obas in Akoko to grade A as it was done in other zones.
He, however, urged sons and daughters of Akoko in government to continue to do their work diligently as they are noted for, the people at home should remain calm until justice is seen to have been done.
“Ondo State belongs to all of us and we shall strive harder to lift her up, even at the face of provocation.
Another prominent son of Akoko, Pharmacist Samuel Adekola expressed optimism that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who is a man of fairness, would address the marginalisation of Akoko in the LCDA creation.
