Leaders of the Ndigboamaka Progressive Markets Association (NPMA), an umbrella body of about 58 major markets in Lagos State, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the new Ogboni Idunafa of Lagos, Chief Gbolahan Oki.
The delegation, led by the association’s President, Comrade Chinedu Ukatu, embarked on the visit with a three-pronged agenda.
According to sources close to the association, the leaders sought to honour the chief, a former General Manager and Permanent Secretary at the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), while exploring avenues for collaboration with the state government to create a more conducive business environment for traders.
The visit also aimed to address the lingering impasse arising from recent market demolitions and fire incidents that have left traders counting their losses.
Since the last fire outbreak at the Bologun Market, the area has remained cordoned off, with traders struggling to recover from the devastating impact on their businesses.
The market leaders expressed hope that Chief Oki’s vast experience and political influence would help resolve the myriad challenges confronting traders operating in Lagos.
Our correspondent gathered that the discussions were frank and productive, with the delegation leaving the palace with renewed hope after securing assurances from the revered chief.
The president’s entourage comprised leaders of major markets associations on Lagos Island.
Speaking to newsmen after the visit, Comrade Ukatu declared, “We shall not relent in our advocacy and the push for collaboration for the betterment of our business environment and ultimately the welfare of our members.“
