The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has said that his administration is dedicated to the overall development of Ondo State.

Governor Aiyedatiwa stated this at the official flag off of the construction of a 1,000-meter concrete walkway with an accompanying jetty in Obe-Nla, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state on Monday.

Mentioning other key projects underway. These include the completion of the 28.5-kilometer Aboto-Atijere Road, the third phase of the Igbokoda-Ayetoro Road construction, and the imminent commencement of a 4.72-kilometer link road between Ugbonla and Ayetoro. These projects are expected to significantly enhance socio-economic activities and address critical challenges such as the Ayetoro sea incursion.

The Governor expressed pride in initiating such an impactful project in his country home. “This moment is unique in several respects. Firstly, it is for me a historic homecoming to flag-off an important project like this in my own community, here in Obe-Na as the Governor of Ondo State. I thank Almighty God for this rare honour in fulfilment of just one of His numerous purposes for me as a man who hailed from this community” he said.

He acknowledged the community’s longstanding demand for a durable and safe concrete walkway, emphasizing that this initiative is a testament to his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for residents.

The governor highlighted the project’s innovative engineering design, noting its departure from the traditional wooden walkways prevalent in the region.

“We have deliberately factored into the project durability; and daily safety and comfort of our people as they make use of the concrete walkway and jetty to ensure long-term benefits for our people” he added

In addition to road infrastructure, the governor noted recent achievements such as the inauguration of the Ode-Erinje Electricity Sub-station, which has restored power to the Southern Senatorial District after 15 years.

He praised the collaboration with service providers to ensure the availability of pre-paid meters, enhancing electricity access in Okitipupa, Irele, Ilaje, and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also noted the ongoing partnership with federal authorities for the construction of the coastal road from Lagos to Calabar, which will include a route through the coastal area of Ondo State, further opening up the region for development.

The governor assured residents that the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) would receive the statutory 40% of the 13% Oil Derivation Fund to expedite ongoing and future projects in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas.

Expressing gratitude for the community’s support, Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the loyalty and commitment of the people to his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He affirmed his intention to continue serving the state beyond 2025 and emphasized the importance of unity within the party to secure victory in the upcoming gubernatorial elections.

Aiyedatiwa extended special thanks to traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other dignitaries present, promising continued efforts to advance the development of Ondo State with integrity and dedication.

The Olubo of Obe-Nla, Oba Andrew Kolawole, who is also the traditional ruler of the host community, stated that the project would significantly boost the economic development of these fishing communities. He expressed the community’s deep appreciation for the governor’s unwavering commitment to improving the riverine areas.

Speaking on behalf of the people of Ugbo Ward 4, he urged everyone to put aside any issues from the primary election, emphasizing that it was merely politics. He called for collective efforts to ensure success in the upcoming November 16 gubernatorial election.

Earlier in his welcome address, OSOPADEC Chairman Hon. Sam Erejuwa mentioned that the contract for the project was awarded in August last year. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, it was delayed. “Now, it’s finally becoming a reality, God’s timing is perfect,” he remarked.

He explained that the governor’s vision is to enhance the quality of life for the people of Obe-Nla and the entire riverine area by improving connectivity among communities. He assured attendees that work will commence immediately following the flag-off. Erejuwa expressed gratitude to the governor for his dedication to the welfare of the people of Ondo State.

Some residents of the Community who could not hide their joy applauded Aiyedatiwa for being sensitive to their plights. Olajide Samson and Biodun Adelarin expressed optimism about the project’s potential impact. They said the initiative reflects the government’s proactive approach to addressing the needs of the coastal region and ensuring inclusive development across the state.

In attendance included, Chief of staff to the governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Deputy speaker of the state house of assembly, Rt. Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan, members of the state executive council from the south senatorial district, elder statesmen, and members of the community.
