NIPR applauds Ayedatiwa’s traffic light project in Akure, seek mass sensitisation

The Ondo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations has applauded the ongoing rehabilitation of road signs and installation of new traffic lights across Akure, describing the initiative as a step toward modernising the state capital.

In a statement issued after its December 2025 meeting, the Chapter said the project mirrors global best practices in organised and well planned cities where functional traffic systems enhance orderliness and urban development.

The NIPR noted that efficient traffic lights are crucial to public safety, helping to protect motorists, pedestrians and cyclists while reducing accidents and improving general road discipline within the metropolis.

It added that the project also carries strong economic value by easing movement, reducing travel time, supporting commercial activities and cutting unnecessary fuel consumption, in line with the state government’s broader developmental agenda.

The institute however urged the Ondo State Government to back the initiative with widespread education and sensitisation campaigns through relevant agencies, warning that ignorance or misuse of the new systems could undermine the benefits.

It said agencies including the Ministries of Transportation, Information and Works, as well as the VIO and FRSC, must be actively involved in enforcing proper use and improving public understanding of traffic regulations.

The Chapter reaffirmed its willingness to partner with the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in promoting awareness campaigns that will ensure compliance and sustain the gains of the traffic management upgrades.
