Ondo Assembly caution petroleum marketers against artificial scarcity

Ondo State House of Assembly has warned petroleum marketers who instigate artificial scarcity and take delight in arbitrary pump price increase,

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji gave this warning on Thursday at a plenary presided over by him .

According to him, the House as representatives of the people, will take every legitimate step to checkmate the marketers’ excesses.

He added that as a matter of fact, The House is set to inaugurate a taskforce to monitor distribution and sales of petroleum products across Ondo state, stressing that it shall be done diligently in the overall interest of the people for whom there were voted to serve.

The Speaker, while welcoming the lawmakers back from the five weeks recess which began on the 3rd of April, 2024, stated that the recess availed the lawmakers the opportunity of political junketeering, necessary for the election of flag bearers, for the governorship election scheduled for November 16, 2024

“Dear colleagues, the primary elections are over and winners have emerged across party Iine. I therefore congratulate winner of the governorship primaries that came up in the State, last month.

“In this regard I will affectionately and specially congratulate His Excellency the governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for the massive support Exhibited by party faithful, at the polls, during the APC primary Election. No doubt, the overwhelming votes delivered in your Honour were an insignia of people’s confidence in your Purposeful leadership style. Let me also among others, Congratulate the former deputy governor of the State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, for clinching the PDP ticket for the November Governorship election, later this year”

The Speaker, however, appealed to gladiators and Stakeholders to play the game according to the rules.

He urged the lawmakers not to forget their appointment with their constituents who elected them into office. “This is a time to buckle up for legislative assignments for which we were elected. Let us not forget to live priority attention to our oversight functions, constituency engagements and other legislative assignments that may crop up from time to time”.

The House had earlier held a special plenary session for the late Former lawmaker, Alexander Adeleye Akinnadeju who served during the fourth Assembly between 1999 to 2003.

Akinnadeju who represented ldanre constituency under the platform of the Alliance For Democracy (AD) in Ondo State died on the 27th February, 2024 at the age 90 years.

The special plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji was attended by the representative of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, who is the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Sunday Akinwalere, a former Minister, Ademola Adegoroye, current and former Assembly members, APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin , other Politicians, Family of the deceased, among others.

At the plenary, the house and other dignitaries made speeches and orations in honour and memory of the late Lawmakers from Idanre in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Speaker described the late Lawmakers as a bold and dedicated member of the House who lived his entire life for God and humanity.

Oladiji who sympathized with the family of the former legislature, said his meaningful and robust contribution to legislative matters would not be forgotten in a haste as he would be greatly missed.

Other dignitaries in attendance extolled the virtues of the former Lawmaker and prayed to God to grant the departed soul eternal rest.
