Ondo Assembly expresses displeasure over finance commissioner’s failure to appear before it

Ondo Assembly House of Assembly has expressed its dissatisfaction over the State Commissioner of Finance, Mrs Omowumi Isaac’s failure to appear before it.

It would be recalled that at a plenary on Tuesday, the house invited the Commissioner to appear before it today and shed light on the propose bill to amend the 2024 appropriation and authorize the issue from the consolidated revenue fund of ondo State by the State government read by the Clerk of the house, Jaiyeola Benjamin.

The House emphasised that it is her primary duty to explained in details the 2024 budget performance and the proposed re -o ordering of budget ,before the house could commerce work on the bill.

At the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Chief Olamide Oladiji ,the Clerk of the House, Jaiyeola Benjamin read a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance,Mr.A.O Akinseloyin stating that the Commissioner is on official assignment outside the State.

But the house during a debate affirmed that the letter written by the house was directed to the commissioner and not the PS, observing that it was an affront on the house and the entire people of the State.

Following her absence to appear before the House today, the finance commissioner has been re- summoned to appear before the House on Thursday, 17th of October,2024.

The House resolved that the bill should be step down until the appearance of the Commissioner.

Subsequently,a bill for a law to amend the establishment of OIl Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), and to make provision for the composition of the commission and for ancillary matters was committed to the house Committee on OSOPADEC after scaling through the second reading.

While speaking under a matter of urgent public importance on the rubbery and incessant killing in Owo town,the house directed the house committee on Security to visit the area and report back to the house as soon as possible.

The House equally charged all security operatives to be alive to duties and re- strategies to curtail the activities of the criminals.

While calling on the people of Owo local government to be vigilant and report all suspected activities,the house said that security issue would not be taken for granted.

Earlier, the Lawmaker representing Owo constituency 1 ,who is also the Majority leader,Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi raised concerns on the menace and stressed the need to strengthen security in the area.
