Teachers’ recruitment: Ondo Assembly harps on merit

Ondo State House of Assembly has advised the Management of the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB),to recruit new teachers on merit to raise the standard of education .

The Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Kolawole Ologede gave the advice while leading other members to monitor the screening exercise conducted for applicants who applied for teaching jobs into Primary Schools in the State.

According to him,merit-based employment is key to qualitative education, hence the need to adhere strictly to guidelines.

The lawmaker stressed that whoever want to impact lives must possess the required academic qualifications and be fit to accomplish the task.

He observed that the exercise was conducted smoothly in the Centers visited with statutory questions asked from the applicants.

He appreciated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the approval to recruit 1,000 teachers into Primary Schools, urging him to raise it to 2,000, based on the report reaching the Committee so as to fill the gap.

Members said they are committed to performing their responsibilities towards enhancing the education sector in the State.

In an interview,a full time Member of SUBEB , Princess Olufunmilayo Ademulegun-Brown who assured that the selection would be merit -based ,informed that the exercise will not be business as usual.

“We are doing a thorough job to ensure that we pick the best and we are still going to conduct another interview for those who make the list of this exercise.l can assure that it will be thorough in order to boost the education system “,She added.
