WiLAT honours maritime gladiator

One of the Maritime Gladiator who has duely paid his dues at various capacities, Capt. Anthony Onoharigho was recently honoured by the Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) as a Friend of WiLAT.

The Capt. Who received the award at Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island Lagos got for his numerous contributions to the maritime industry, and economy.

Onoharigho as he is popularly called, attended Sea Grammar School, Sapele, Delta State for his secondary school education from 1976 to 1981. Obtained the West African School Certificate before proceeding to the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron for Diploma in Nautical Science and holds a Masters Marine Certificate.

The maritime expert had worked in many vessels and crude oil tanker berthing in Shell Petroleum, Chevron, others and also worked as a Supply Vessel crew of masters for many years.

From 1994 to 1995, he attended and earned the Master License of Competency in Liberia. He attended the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron for his Post Graduate Diploma in Shipping Technology from 1995 to 1996. He proceeded to Federal University of Technology, Owerri for Maritime Management.

He was the first Nigerian to set up a classification company, Mariner Nigeria Ltd., and he is the Managing Director and African Representative and Chief Surveyor for Mariner Group, America.

The activities of the company entails, coordinating ships survey and classification, country flag representative such as Nigeria, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Tanzania, Togo, among.

The company issues ISNO Certificate, developing and incorporating safety management procedure for shipowners and training of seamen for shipowners.

Onoharigho is also the Deputy Registrar with Liberia Maritime Authority with the responsibility for ship registration, certification.

He was the past National President of the Nigeria Institute of Shipping from 2016 to 2022, also the past Vice President of fhe Chartered Institute of Logistics of Nigeria.

He is the member and fellow of many professional bodies in and outside Nigeria, such as Fellow Nigerian Institute of Shipping, Society of Consulting of Marine Engineer and Ships Surveyors, UK, Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Federation of Marine Engineer, UK and others.

Reacting to the honour bestowed on him,Capt. Onoharigho said, I am now a friend to all the women.

“I was so honoured by the WILAT and I deeply appreciate this award. Most times when one is doing something, you don’t know that someone is watching you and the WILAT has been monitoring my progress in the maritime industry. I will work with them to achieve what they want to achieve in the industry.”
