Maritime stakeholders are set to gather for a roundtable discussion on the contentious reintroduction of the International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN) by the Federal Government.
The event, organized by the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), is scheduled for Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the MARAN Secretariat in Apapa GRA, Lagos, starting at 10:00 a.m.
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) are expected to present papers on the ICTN, while key stakeholders—including the Shippers’ Association of Lagos State, the Importers’ Association of Nigeria, and the Sea Empowerment Research Centre—will provide insights and engage in discussions to address concerns surrounding the policy.
The Managing Director of Widescope Group, Dr. Segun Musa, will also be present to contribute to the discourse.
Speaking on the significance of the roundtable, MARAN President Godfrey Bivbere emphasized the urgency of resolving the controversies surrounding the ICTN.
He noted that since the announcement of its reintroduction, the policy has sparked widespread debate among supporters and critics, each presenting arguments for and against its implementation.
“As the foremost maritime reporters’ association in Nigeria, MARAN sees the need to bring all key players together under one roof to address this issue comprehensively. The goal is to find common ground and ensure a smooth implementation of the policy for the overall benefit of the maritime sector, which is crucial to the nation’s economy,” Bivbere stated.
Meanwhile, invited speakers and stakeholders have confirmed their participation and readiness to share their perspectives on the matter.
