MWUN raises alarm over poor living conditions of Nigerian seafarers on ships, shore vessels

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), led by Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has strongly condemned the ongoing deplorable living conditions faced by its seafarers aboard the “MT Bawarza” tanker vessel and two tugboats, “Battle Axe” and “MT Spain,” operated by Ship & Shore Services Ltd in Lagos.
This was disclosed in a press release sent to Lagos Trace News Magazine on Wednesday by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media for MWUN.
The statement further highlighted that the disturbing living conditions of the union’s members, who are legitimate crew members aboard the vessels of Ship & Shore Services Ltd, had recently been brought to the attention of the union’s leadership.
Comrade Bunu, a maritime expert, seasoned sailor, and business administrator, has vowed to address the issue, stressing that he will not allow such treatment to go unnoticed.
He emphasized that no employer in the maritime sector should subject workers to such inhumane conditions.
