Nigeria @65: Gov Aiyedatiwa hails Tinubu’s reforms, assures Ondo people of renewed devt drive

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold economic and infrastructural reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring the people of the State that his administration remains committed to a renewed drive for development across all sectors.

Speaking during the 65th Independence Anniversary celebration held on Wednesday at the Gani Fawehinmi Arcade, Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the day as an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since 1960, honour the sacrifices of its founding fathers and draw strength from the resilience of its citizens.

The Governor noted that Nigeria has weathered civil strife, military rule and economic challenges yet remains united as Africa’s largest democracy.

He stressed that under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria is “on the path of glory,” citing bold economic reforms, social re-engineering, and massive infrastructural developments as signs of progress.

Highlighting achievements in Ondo State since his administration was inaugurated in February 2025, the Governor listed ongoing dualisation of key roads such as the Akungba–Ikare and Okitipupa–Igbokoda carriageways, construction of walkways and jetties in riverine areas, and the approval of five kilometres of roads in each of the 18 local government areas. According to him, these projects are designed to open up communities, boost commerce, and improve daily life for residents.

On healthcare, he stated that the expansion of the State Contributory Health Scheme, the completion of a Pharma-grade warehouse, the renovation of hospitals and primary healthcare centres, as well as recruitment of medical staff, are providing more citizens with access to affordable and quality healthcare.

In education, Aiyedatiwa revealed that more classrooms have been rehabilitated, instructional materials distributed, and scholarship funds disbursed to students of Ondo origin.

He added that ₦7.5 billion has been earmarked for agriculture alongside 26,000 hectares of secured land, aimed at boosting food production, job creation and agribusiness opportunities.

The Governor further disclosed that his administration is sustaining workers’ welfare through prompt payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities, while reducing the state’s domestic debt profile.

On security, he announced the provision of 75 new Hilux patrol vehicles fitted with modern gadgets to strengthen the capacity of security agencies in protecting lives and property.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed appreciation to the people of Ondo State for their patience, trust and support, urging them to remain hopeful and united in building a brighter future.

“Ondo State is moving forward, Nigeria is moving forward; and nothing is beyond our reach. The sun of a new dawn is rising over our State,” he declared.

Earlier in his address, the Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti described the event as a testament to the unwavering spirit of the forebearers who fought tirelessly for our liberation.

While expressing appreciation to God for the privilege for everyone to witness this year’s celebration, he thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa, for deeming it fit to honour the struggles, resilience and unity of past and present heroes.

He explained that the state has reasons to celebrate noting that the present administration has successfully changed the narratives of the state noting that in recent times, the State has witnessed unprecedented socio-economic revival and restoration.

According to him, Governor Aiyedatiwa has deliberately provided an ambience that opened up the industrial and economic frontiers of development in the State, thus, strategically placing Ondo State on the world map.

Hence, our people are now endowed with limitless opportunities to thrive and contribute to the development of our nation.

“Mr. Governor, we appreciate you for these feats – your fiscal transparency and accountability has in no small measure fascinated the unprecedented reform and transformational programmes and projects we are witnessing in Ondo State”, he concluded.

The event featured a parade mounted by the Nigeria Police, schools, political and non-political groups, and attracted top government officials and dignitaries including Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, the Chief Judge, Justice A.O Odusola, commissioners, Chairman of the Council of Obas and the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye, Chief Imam of Akure, Sheikh Abdulhakeem Yayi Akorede, State Vice Chairman of CAN, Bishop Ayodeji Komolafe, and the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, represented by the Osolo of Isolo, Akure, High Chief Edward Adewole, among others.
