Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to sustaining peace and security across the state, assuring continued support for all security formations.

The governor gave the assurance on Friday while receiving the 46th Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdulahi Mustapha, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office in Akure.

Governor Aiyedatiwa commended the courage and resilience of security personnel combating Boko Haram, ISWAP and other criminal elements across the country. He cited recent attacks on schools in Kebbi and Niger states, as well as a church in Kwara State, noting that swift interventions by the military and other agencies helped rescue victims and prevent further casualties.

He emphasized that the peace enjoyed in Ondo State is a product of collaboration between the government, the military, police, civil defence, Amotekun, local hunters, forest guards and volunteer groups. Security, he stressed, is a shared responsibility that requires sustained cooperation and vigilance.

The governor assured the visiting naval chief of continued government support for all security agencies, adding that the state remains committed to maintaining its reputation as one of the safest in Nigeria.

In his remarks, Rear Admiral Mustapha lauded the government’s consistent support, saying it has significantly boosted the Navy’s capacity to secure the state’s maritime environment. He highlighted the strategic value of Ondo State’s long coastline, hydrocarbon deposits and the proposed deep-sea port, noting that these assets require robust protection.

The Flag Officer explained that intelligence-led and technology-driven operations remain crucial in curbing criminal activities and protecting key economic assets. He highlighted ongoing efforts, including hydrographic mapping, joint exercises with the Army and Air Force, as well as enhanced surveillance of strategic locations.

Mustapha also referenced “Operation Omi,” a high-level hostage rescue mission, and disclosed plans to map abandoned oil wells along the coastline to deter illegal exploitation and support future development of the state’s maritime corridor.

He reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to maintaining a secure maritime space, protecting economic assets and reinforcing government efforts to ensure safety within the state. His command area stretches from the Benin Republic border to the Benin River Delta.

The Rear Admiral was accompanied by Commodore A. Mohammed; Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Justin Ifeanyi; Commanding Officer, Forward Operating Base, Igbokoda, Navy Captain Aliyu Usman; Navy Captain A.O. Alemengwa; Commander A. Akeredolu; Wing Commander M.O. Yahaya; and Sub-Lieutenant Ibrahim.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka; Amotekun Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye; and Senior Adviser on Security, Gbenga Atiba.
