The Councillor representing Ijare Ward 2 in the Ifedore Local Government Legislative Arm, Ondo State, Hon. Dapo Akingbola, has reiterated his commitment to grassroots empowerment, declaring that politics must be anchored on people-oriented programmes rather than personal gain.
Akingbola stated this during a special programme organised for over 300 aged persons, women and youths in the ward, where cash, foodstuffs and Christmas palliatives worth millions of naira were distributed.
The councillor, who is also the Majority Leader of the legislative arm, emphasised the need to reposition politics as a tool for human and societal development.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his support and leadership, dedicating the programme to him.
Akingbola highlighted his journey in politics, describing it as one inspired by a passion for service, equity and empowerment.
He noted that his advocacy for the aged, women, widows and youths predated his political appointment.
“Politics for me has never been about bitterness or self-enrichment. It is about service, development and creating lasting impact,” he stated.
The lawmaker lauded the governor’s performance, particularly the approval and ongoing work on the Ijare-Akure Expressway, describing Aiyedatiwa as a visionary leader whose commitment to infrastructure, healthcare, education and empowerment programmes is transforming the state.
The leader of Ijare Ward 2, Hon. Tuyi Agboola, said Akingbola’s initiatives had consistently equipped vulnerable groups with tools for sustainable growth and self-reliance.
Agboola noted that some women who initially aligned with opposition parties had embraced the All Progressives Congress after benefiting from Akingbola’s empowerment programmes, strengthening the party’s grassroots presence.
The Supervising Councillor for Ijare Ward 1, Hon. Orisunmibare Fasua, urged philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to emulate Akingbola’s efforts in improving the ward.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ebun Ojo, commended Akingbola’s initiative for complementing government efforts in improving citizens’ welfare across the ward.
