The Director-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Public Service Training Institute, Ilara-Mokin, Dr Olumide Olusesan Aserere, says the institute has trained more than 7,000 public servants as part of efforts to improve efficiency and professionalism in the state’s civil service.
Aserere disclosed this in Akure while speaking with Trace News Magazine, noting that the training programmes were designed to equip workers with modern knowledge and skills required to enhance governance and public service delivery in Ondo State.
He explained that the institute was established with the vision of building a highly skilled and technologically driven public service capable of supporting the state’s development agenda.
According to him, many advanced countries rely on strong training institutions to strengthen the competence of public officers, stressing that Ondo State is adopting similar strategies through the activities of the training institute.
Aserere said while university education provides theoretical knowledge, specialised training helps public servants develop the practical skills needed to effectively manage modern government systems and contribute to national development.
He added that the institute now provides training for officers across different cadres of the civil service, including senior officials, through programmes such as the Executive Management Programme aimed at strengthening leadership and administrative capacity.
The director-general also noted that the institute had expanded its programmes beyond the civil service by organising training in Information and Communication Technology and Artificial Intelligence for secondary school teachers across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Aserere commended the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for supporting the institute’s initiatives, adding that the administration’s commitment to capacity building had helped PSTI reduce the duration of some training courses from six months to three months while also making them more accessible to participants.
He further explained that trainees undergo examinations and practical assessments to ensure they acquire the competence and problem-solving skills required to improve service delivery in the state.
Aserere said the institute would continue to focus on building a modern and well-trained workforce capable of strengthening governance and promoting sustainable development in Ondo State.
