Ondo 2027: Gov Aiyedatiwa charges LG officials on unity, party loyalty

…Says minor disagreements cannot divide party

By Precious Oluwole

Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has called on supervisory councillors across the state to remain united and loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.

The governor made the call on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting with supervisory councillors from the 18 local government areas of the state held at the Cocoa Conference Hall in Akure.

Aiyedatiwa emphasised that governance requires collaboration among all levels of government, noting that effective administration depends on teamwork.

“The work of government is no work of one person. Just as the President works with his Vice, Cabinet and Ministers, the same applies at the state and local government levels,” he said.

The governor commended local government chairmen, councillors and supervisors for their contributions to the implementation of government policies, particularly acknowledging their patience and cooperation in handling security issues in some parts of the state.

According to him, cases relating to security concerns had been submitted for review, while he also praised the officials for their proactive efforts in addressing challenges in their respective localities.

Describing the gathering as significant, Aiyedatiwa noted that it was the first time he was meeting directly with supervisory councillors across the state, providing an opportunity to strengthen communication and collaboration within the party structure.

Speaking on the political landscape ahead of the next electoral cycle, the governor reminded the officials that APC remains the ruling party in the state and urged them to remain committed to its ideals.

“Everyone that will be contesting for elective offices is a member of APC. This is the government of APC in Ondo State,” he said, warning party members not to be distracted by other political groups.

He added that preparations for the presidential and National Assembly elections would begin soon, explaining that the electoral process starts long before voting day through expressions of interest and party primaries.

The governor also remarked that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) currently lacks a stable national structure, stressing that the situation would not affect APC’s governance in the state.

Calling for unity within the party, he urged members to support the administration and pray for the success of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu presidency.

“We are one family. We might have our little push and pull, but at the end of the day, we come together as one,” he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Coordinator and Supervisor for Agriculture in Akoko South West Local Government, Felix Sunday Olasunkanmi, commended the governor for what he described as a year of purposeful governance.

He also praised the peaceful conduct of the recent party congress, describing it as a reflection of the APC’s unity and maturity in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the supervisory councillors, Olasunkanmi pledged continued support for the implementation of government policies at the grassroots and endorsed the governor’s development agenda.

He, however, called for stronger oversight of political appointees to ensure loyalty and commitment to government programmes.

Olasunkanmi also highlighted the need for improved welfare for supervisory councillors, noting that there is a salary gap of about N120,000 between supervisors, advisers and councillors.

He further appealed for the provision of official vehicles to enhance their mobility and efficiency in carrying out their duties.

“Strengthening our capacity and welfare will greatly enhance our ability to deliver more effectively on the vision of your administration,” he said.

He assured the governor of their commitment to good governance while praying for continued success for the administration and the progress of the state.

Among those present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami; Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Segun Omojuwa; Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties, Bola Taiwo; and Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore.
