2026 Intl Women’s Day:Gov Aiyedatiwa to Empower 1,200 Women in Ondo, Launches New Initiatives for Inclusive Growth

The Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Osamaye, has announced plans to empower 1,200 women across the state as part of activities marking the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration.

Speaking at a media parley held on Thursday at the Ministry’s Skill Acquisition Complex in Akure, Osamaye disclosed that the initiative surpasses the 1,000 beneficiaries recorded in 2025, reflecting the administration’s growing commitment to women’s development.

She attributed the expansion to the policy direction of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa under the “Odatiwa Odirorun” (Our Ease) Agenda, which prioritises economic empowerment and social inclusion.

Dr Osamaye appreciated His Excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and his wife, Her Excellency, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, for the empowerment initiative, noting that it will significantly contribute to lifting women out of poverty and strengthening their economic independence across Ondo State.

According to the Commissioner, the theme for this year’s celebration, “Give to Gain,” underscores the importance of intentional investment in women as a pathway to societal progress.

“This year’s celebration will be impactful, inclusive, and action-driven. When we commit resources and support to women, the entire society benefits,” Dr Osamaye said.

Dr Osamaye explained that beneficiaries of the empowerment programme would be carefully selected from diverse groups across the state to ensure inclusivity and equal opportunity, stressing that no category of women would be left behind.

She further revealed that three major initiatives would headline the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at the Dome in Akure.

Activities lined up for the celebration are the launch of the Ondo State Odatiwa Women Cooperative Multipurpose Society, designed as a sustainable platform to enhance financial inclusion by providing women with access to credit facilities, business support services, and wealth creation opportunities.

Also planned is the Ondo State Female Iconic Awards, where five distinguished women will be honoured for their exceptional leadership and contributions to the state’s development.

In addition, a high-level panel session themed “Breaking the Ceiling: Women as Pillars of Ondo State Development” will bring together policymakers and accomplished women to explore practical strategies for increasing female participation in governance and economic growth.

The Commissioner emphasised that International Women’s Day should go beyond ceremonial observance, describing it as a call to action for both government and citizens to advance gender equality.

Present at the press parley are women stakeholders, O’datiwa groups, Directors and senior management team of the ministry of women Affairs.
