Fasoranti @100: AAUA VC Ige celebrates Afenifere Leader, hails legacy of integrity

The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has congratulated elder statesman and leader of Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, on the occasion of his 100th birthday anniversary, describing him as “a colossus of integrity and selfless service.”

In a statement issued on Prof. Ige extolled the centenarian’s enduring contributions to education, democracy, and the advancement of the Yoruba nation, noting that his life remains a shining example of honour, courage, and principled leadership.

The Vice Chancellor recalled Fasoranti’s tenure as the second Pro-Chancellor of the university between November 2001 and September 2003, saying his prudent leadership and commitment to excellence helped lay a solid foundation for the institution’s growth.

According to him, the elder statesman remains one of the most respected voices in Nigeria’s socio-political landscape due to his steadfast commitment to truth, justice and the welfare of the people.

“Baba Fasoranti is a leader of leaders. He is a community pillar, a political sage, and a bridge builder. His tenure as Pro-Chancellor of this great institution laid a solid foundation for academic excellence.

He is a man of truth who has always prioritised the welfare of others above personal gain”.

The AAUA Vice Chancellor further described the Afenifere leader as a devoted disciple of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who consistently embodied the Yoruba values of Omoluabi through humility, honour, and selfless service.

He added that Fasoranti’s courageous stance during the military era and his advocacy for true federalism and democratic governance have continued to inspire generations of Nigerians.

“At 100, Chief Fasoranti remains a rallying point for justice, true federalism, and democratic governance. His voice during the dark days of military rule was loud and fearless, and his contributions to the development of education in Ondo State and Nigeria are immeasurable”.

Prof. Ige prayed for continued strength, sound health, and divine wisdom for the elder statesman, expressing optimism that Nigeria would continue to benefit from his wealth of experience and fatherly counsel.

“On behalf of the management, staff, and students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, I wish Papa a happy 100th anniversary. We celebrate his life of sacrifice and his relentless pursuit of a better society,” he concluded.
