The Nigerian Ports Authority has commended the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria for conducting a peaceful and seamless leadership transition following the association’s recent election.
The General Manager, Corporate Communication and Strategy of the NPA, Ikechukwu Onyemachara, gave the commendation when the newly elected executive members of MARAN paid him a courtesy visit in Lagos.
Onyemachara described the smooth transition process within the association as evidence of a strong administrative structure capable of sustaining unity and stability.
He noted that leadership transitions in some organisations often lead to crises, especially when caretaker committees attempt to extend their tenure, a situation he said could trigger division and instability.
According to him, MARAN’s ability to avoid such controversies and organise a peaceful electoral process reflected the maturity and institutional strength of the association.
The NPA official also praised the association for honouring and recognising its former leaders, describing the gesture as a sign of respect for continuity and organisational development.
He urged the newly inaugurated executive committee, led by the President of MARAN, Oluyinka Onigbinde, to remain focused and continue engaging stakeholders in efforts aimed at advancing the maritime sector.
Earlier, Onigbinde said the visit was to appreciate the NPA for its sustained support for the association over the years and to seek further collaboration for future programmes and activities.
MARAN recently conducted its election on May 7, producing a seven-member executive committee.
The newly elected officers include Oluyinka Onigbinde as President, Sylvanus Obasi as Vice President and Fabian Anawo as Secretary.
Others are Amina Ojelabi as Assistant Secretary, Ruth Sunday as Treasurer, Ambrose Okehi as Financial Secretary and Providence Ayanfeoluwa as Public Relations Officer.
