…….Seeks inclusion in Permanent Secretary appointments
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for appointing Chief Segun Odusanya as the new Head of Service of the state, describing the decision as a reflection of merit, seniority and competence in the civil service.
The union, however, appealed to the governor to address what it described as the continued marginalisation of qualified journalists in appointments into the position of Permanent Secretary in the state public service.
In a congratulatory message jointly signed by the Chairman of the council, Prince Leke Adegbite, and the Secretary, Olaoluwa Meshack, the NUJ lauded the governor for selecting Odusanya to succeed the immediate past Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip, who recently retired from service.
According to the union, the appointment demonstrates Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to upholding the principles of seniority and excellence in the public service.
The council described Odusanya as an experienced bureaucrat and seasoned administrator, expressing confidence that he would deploy his wealth of experience to drive reforms and improve service delivery across the state civil service.
While congratulating the new Head of Service, the NUJ urged the governor to consider qualified directors from the Ministry of Information and the OSRC/Orange FM Media Group for future appointments as Permanent Secretaries, noting that journalists in the state civil service have for years been overlooked despite their qualifications and contributions.
The union also called on Odusanya to provide purposeful leadership that would strengthen the civil service, enhance efficiency and promote a more result-oriented public service capable of supporting the developmental agenda of the state government.
It further appealed to the new Head of Service to work with the governor in ensuring that members of the journalism profession are given fair opportunities to attain the rank of Permanent Secretary in the state.
The NUJ also expressed appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for assenting to a bill aimed at protecting journalists working with The Hope Newspaper under the Ondo State Government Printing and Publishing Corporation, describing the move as a significant step towards safeguarding the welfare of media professionals in the state.
