The Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, on Thursday hosted security chiefs in the state to an appreciation reception, commending their commitment to sustaining peace and security across Ondo State.
The event, held in Akure, brought together heads of security agencies and other stakeholders, with Poroye saying the gathering was organised to honour officers whose sacrifices have helped protect lives and property across the state.
Addressing the guests, the OSOPADEC chairman said the programme was also aimed at conveying the appreciation of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the people of Ondo State for the dedication of the security agencies to duty.
He noted that one of his priorities on assumption of office was to build a strong working relationship with security agencies, adding that their prompt response to security challenges had contributed significantly to the prevailing peace in the state.
“We are here on behalf of the Governor and the good people of Ondo State to say thank you. We may not have the opportunity to celebrate you the way we would have loved, but we want you to know that we appreciate your sacrifices and your commitment to ensuring that Ondo State remains peaceful,” Poroye said.
The OSOPADEC boss described Governor Aiyedatiwa as a leader who places a premium on security, saying the governor values the contributions of security agencies towards safeguarding lives and creating an enabling environment for development.
He added that several prominent political figures, including ministers, senators and members of the House of Representatives, had commended the state’s security architecture and the governor’s proactive approach to tackling security concerns.
Speaking with journalists after the event, Poroye said the gathering underscored the need to appreciate people while they are alive, stressing that peace remained invaluable to the growth and development of the state.
“In the journey of life, people often appreciate others after they are gone. We do not want that in Ondo State. Peace is priceless, and we must continue to encourage those working tirelessly to preserve it,” he said.
Poroye also disclosed that the state government, through OSOPADEC, had continued to engage private security outfits to complement conventional security agencies in protecting communities within the commission’s mandate areas.
He further revealed that Governor Aiyedatiwa had approved the installation of Closed-Circuit Television cameras at strategic public infrastructure, including the Obe-Nla Concrete Walkway and street lighting projects, to strengthen surveillance, support crime prevention and improve intelligence gathering across the state.
