Oluyi makes case for 500 youths to benefit from free trade test certification

…………Advocates for Youth training in solar power installation

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Technical and Vocational Education, Ogbeni Tayo Oluyi, has paid a courtesy visit to the State Controller, Ondo State Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment (FMLE), Mrs. Olanike Mogboruko, towards enhancing synergy for better opportunities for youths in the State.

The meeting, which was held at the Ministry’s premises, was intended to familiarize the management with interventions of the Board for Adult, Technical and Vocational Education (BATVE), ensure youth trainees receive Trade Test Certification and to serve as an advocacy visit to further discuss collaborations and partnerships from the Federal Government level that would benefit Ondo State Youths.

While discussing potential areas for collaboration, Ogbeni Oluyi mentioned that the Board is eager to see youths in the state benefit from the issuance of the forthcoming Trade Test Certification being organized by a foreign development agency, popularly known as GIZ, whereby no fewer than 500 Youths would be certified and trained in Solar Panel installation, with the FMLE serving as an intermediary in extending the development intervention to the State Government.

The SSA further said that the Ondo State Government is highly interested in partnerships that would change the narrative of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and upskill youths by taking necessary steps with the Federal Government so as to key into sustainable development programmes through the FMLE, to achieve the aim of reducing unemployment ratio and promoting youth empowerment.

The State Controller, in her response, appreciated the SSA and his team from the Board while acknowledging that the FMLE would be happy to collaborate in matters that would keep youths productive.

She assured that the visit would foster mutual collaboration with the use of their facilities in carrying out the forthcoming training of participants in Solar Panel installation and hinted that another training centre is underway that would enable more participation at the grassroot in the long run.

The Permanent Secretary, Olatunji Olasiji, said part of the aim of the visit was to acquaint the Ministry with the responsibilities of the Board, which currently serves as the arm of government in charge of TVET and to discuss areas of synergy. He stated that the Board would be glad to be part of the other agencies the Ministry is partnering with on the same interest to ensure Ondo State Youths benefit maximally.

In another development, the State Controller (FMLE), Mrs. Mogboruko, led the team to inspect the training centre located at Oba-Ile which was established by the Federal Government to promote TVET.

Also present at the meeting were: the Director for Finance and Administration, Mrs. Gbemisola Omopariola; Director of School Services, Builder Oluwakemisola Adumashi and Director Vocational Education, Mrs. Rachael Olabomi.
