……Approves five Special Advisers
The Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Erelu Taibat Oloruntoba as a Commissioner-designate in the state.
The House also confirmed the nomination of Dr Mann Omobayi Alli as Chairman-designate of the Ondo State Civil Service Commission and Mr Michael Oshodi as a member-designate of the Commission.
The nominees were confirmed on Thursday during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji.
The Speaker announced the ratification of their appointments following the presentation and consideration of the report of the House Committee on Selection, as well as the adoption of its recommendations by the lawmakers through a voice vote.
The House had earlier conducted a screening exercise for the nominees on Wednesday through the House Committee on Selection, headed by the Speaker.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had forwarded the names of the nominees to the Assembly for for consideration and approval few weeks ago.
Presenting the report of the House Committee on Selection at plenary, the Vice-Chairman of the Committee and Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ololade Gbegudu, said the nominees responded to all questions raised by the committee in an eloquent and explicit manner.
He noted that the nominees demonstrated a clear understanding of the responsibilities attached to the positions for which they were nominated.
According to the report, the nominees possess the required academic qualifications and are physically, mentally and emotionally fit to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
The committee further stated that they possess the requisite experience, charisma and exposure needed to function effectively in their respective capacities.
Earlier, the Leader of the House, Hon. Chief Olatunji Oshati, moved a motion for the consideration of the committee’s report and for the nominees to appear before the House, which was seconded by Hon. Sulaiman Murtala, representing Akoko South-East Constituency.
Lawmakers from the constituencies of the nominees spoke glowingly about them and attested to their competence and capacity to function effectively.
Thereafter, the House Leader moved a motion for the confirmation of the nominees’ appointments, which was seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ololade Gbegudu.
Speaking after the confirmation, Speaker Oladiji said the exercise was in line with the provisions of the Constitution.
He charged the newly confirmed appointees to join hands with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in moving the state to greater heights.
While congratulating them, the Speaker urged the appointees to contribute their quota to the development and progress of Ondo State.
Responding on behalf of the newly confirmed appointees, Erelu Taibat Oloruntoba pledged that they would not disappoint the Governor, the lawmakers and the people of the state.
She assured that they would bring their wealth of experience to bear in ensuring effective service delivery.
Oloruntoba also expressed appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for the confidence reposed in them.
Consequently, the House also approved the appointment of five additional Special Advisers for the Ondo State Governor.
