AIYEDATIWA: RECOGNISING HISTORY, PRESERVING ENDURING LEGACY

— Comrade Victor Omodara.

Leadership is not measured exclusively by the projects initiated, the roads constructed or the policies implemented during one’s tenure. It is also reflected in the capacity to recognise the contributions of predecessors, preserve institutional memories and build a political culture in which public service is valued.

By renaming The DOME after Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, Governor Aiyedatiwa has provided an opportunity for reflection on the place of legacy in public leadership. It is a reminder that political offices are temporary, but the impact of public service can endure across generations.

Indeed, the strength of a leader is not dimished by acknowledging the achievements of another. Rather, such recognition can enrich the historical narratives of governance and reinforce the principle that the development of Ondo State is a continuing journey to which successive administrations contribute in different ways.

The gesture also offers a valuable lesson in political maturity: *the past need not be erased for the present to make progress, and recognising a predecessor does not diminish the achievements or aspirations of the incumbent*

I give it to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa not only preserving the legacy of the former Governor, but for also retaining the acronym – *”Dr. “D” Olusegun “O” Mimiko “M” (International) Events “E”* centre. (DOME).

Comrade Victor Omodara is the SSA on Grassroots Mobilization to His Excellency the Governor of Ondo State.
