The Vice-Chancellor of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, has joined the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, Prince Biyi Poroye, on an inspection of the School of Maritime Transport and Logistics at Ugbonla, Ilaje Local Government Area.
Ologunorisa participated in the inspection despite activities marking his 60th birthday, as preparations intensify for the planned unveiling of the maritime institution by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in February 2027.
The visit underscores the growing attention being given to the project, which is expected to expand access to specialised education and create new opportunities for residents of the coastal communities.
The institution is also expected to contribute to the economic development of the Ilaje and Ese-Odo areas through maritime education, skills acquisition and training in logistics-related disciplines.
The planned unveiling in February 2027 is expected to represent a major step in efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and develop local expertise in sectors associated with the blue economy.
The inspection is part of ongoing efforts to assess the project’s progress and ensure that development initiatives under OSOPADEC deliver meaningful benefits to communities within its mandate areas.
When operational, the School of Maritime Transport and Logistics is expected to equip students with relevant technical knowledge and practical skills for careers in maritime operations, transportation and logistics.
Ologunorisa’s participation in the exercise also highlights the potential benefits of collaboration between universities and development agencies in advancing specialised training, research and human capital development in Ondo State.
