Govt. should stop playing lips service to security issues – Archbishop Borokini

The Archbishop of Ondo province/Akure Diocesan Bishop and President of Synod, The Most Rev’d Simeon Oluwole Borokini , has appealed to the government of Nigeria to stop playing lips service to the issue of security.

Archbishop Borokini stated this at the 3rd session of the 14th Synod of the Diocese of Akure Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), held at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Ijare in Ifedore Local Government area of Ondo State.

According to the Bishop, Insecurity is another great challenge today in our country, as no place is safe again in this country. “Travelling is now a nightmare for both old and young. All our means of travelling seems unsafe. We can’t afford to be living in fear in our father land.
“The economy is not in good shape, cost of living is increasing by the day. Things are becoming tougher and we don’t pray it continue this way. We call on the government as a matter of urgency to re-evaluate and review its economic policies in order to diversify and revamp the ailing economy with a view to mitigating the adverse effect of subsidy removal on petroleum products on the people. The fluctuation of the Naira against the Dollar, is another threat to our economy.
“Government to please implement policies that will alleviate the sufferings of the people in the short, medium and long terms. Government should create enabling environment for entrepreneurs with favourable frame work and policies”.
Archbishop Borokini urged the federal government to find a solution to insecurity, unemployment among the youths and also ensure that power is available to all Nigerians uninterruptedly, twenty – four hours every day, stressing that achieving good power supply will constitute the beginning of breakthrough for our nation.

While welcoming Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to the helms of affairs of Ondo State, Rev’d Borokini prayed for him for more strength from above.
Speaking on the forth coming gubernatorial election in Ondo State, the Akure Diocessan Bishop encouraged citizens of the State to be praying collectively and individually for the will of God to prevail. “God should give us a man after His own heart, a man that loves and fears the Lord and have the love of the masses at heart”.
Speaking on the theme of the Synod ” Breaking the shackles of sin”,Borokini noted that sin is the major cause of man’s fall and the main reason for the coming of Christ.
He stressed that the theme is taken from the epistle of Paul to the Romans, a book that several theologians have referred to as the “Epistle of Salvation” or the “Manual for Salvation”. This is because the book dealt extensively with the matter of sin and salvation. It clearly outlines God’s plan for salvation from sin by systematically dealing with the theme in the following order.
Rev’d Borokini opined that the exercise of faith for freedom from sin can only be possible in the following ways: the realization of sin, the revelation of God’s gift, the revolution by God’s spirit.
He charged believers to forsake sin and seek the face of the Lord.
The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa congratulated Bishop Borokini, his associate Clergymen and the entire Akure Diocese on the successful Synod.
The Governor said that the selection of the theme of the Synod is divine and a most appropriate topic for us at this time when we need prayers for the well-being of this country.
“There is no doubt that the church and the government share complimentary roles in the life of the country. They both operate under the direction and guidance of God. All our combined efforts are targeted at the physical and spiritual well-being of mankind. It goes without saying that when we permit a functional synergy between the church and the government, the society stands to benefit more.
While soliciting for more support and co-operation for the government in the collective efforts to build a more virile and prosperous Ondo State, the Governor assured that his administration shall continue to pursue the path of accelerated development and security of lives and property in the State.
Speaking with the newsmen, the wife of the Archbishop, Princess Christiana Adetumbi Borokini urged women to be prayerful at this particular time as prayer does wonders, and call their children to order, teach them to be proactive, not to join the multitude to do evil.
While imploring the government to continue to do their best for the people, Mrs Borokini charged Nigerians not to rely on the government for everything, and try to have a little farm around their homes.
Speaking on the safe home for survivors of human trafficking, Mrs Borokini said that instead of the girls who have victims of human trafficking but has survived to be roaming about, the “Hardassa safe house” was set up.
Mrs Borokini appealed to people who have these girls around them to bring them to the safe house. She said that the house is free, has a hostel facilities, a cook and has every necessary government backing.
The Synod which began on Thursday, 4th of July will end with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 7th of July at St. Michael’s Anglican church, Ijare
