MARAN to train Journalists on tackling cyberbullying

By: Joy Enamuna

The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) is set to hold a one-day workshop aimed at equipping its members and other journalists with tools to combat the rising menace of cyberbullying. This initiative comes in response to recent challenges faced by some journalists due to online harassment.

As the umbrella body for maritime journalists, MARAN is dedicated to promoting online safety and ensuring journalists are better prepared to navigate digital threats in the course of their work.

In collaboration with the Port Police, the workshop will focus on educating participants about preventing, identifying, and addressing cyberbullying, creating a safer online space for media professionals. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the International Maritime Centre, Apapa.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of cyberbullying, learn how to recognize its signs, and develop effective strategies for prevention and intervention in their reporting.

Cyberbullying, defined as the use of technology to harass, intimidate, or threaten individuals through social media, messaging apps, emails, or other online platforms, is an increasing concern in today’s digital age.
