Pray at all times for peace, security of Ondo State – Gov Aiyedatiwa tells churches, individuals

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has called on churches as well as individuals to pray at all times for peace and security of the State.

The Governor made this call at the State Church Service of the 2025 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day held at the Chapel of Grace Government House Akure, on Sunday.

According to the Governor, the occasion is dedicated to honouring the departed heroes and veterans with particular attention to those who suffered various deprivations in the line of duties, the widows and the dependants of the fallen heroes.

“As we reflect on this day, let us take a moment to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We extend our deepest gratitude to their families, friends and loved ones who have endured the irreparable loss. Today’s service is a solemn reflection on the ideals they stood and fought for.

“Let me reiterate that as much as our prayers are needed, there is the continual need for our generous supports in cash and kind for the heroes and veterans; particularly those that are physically challenged.

“As we honour our heroes today, I encourage each of you to take action in support of our veterans, widows of the fallen heroes and those still in active service. Let us work to provide them with the care, respect and opportunities they deserve. Together, we can create an environment that fosters healing, support and inclusivity for all who have served.

“It is also imperative for us to lift our hearts in prayer for those who have fallen, for those who continue to serve and for the families who bear the weight of their sacrifices. May we be inspired to carry their legacy forward, upholding the values they fought for and strive for a future filled with peace and understanding”.

Speaking on the forthcoming Local Government election, the Governor implored the people of the State to comport themselves in peaceful manner during the exercise.

“On our part, I wish to reiterate that we shall provide a level playing field for all political parties to carry out their electioneering activities in line with the dictates of the electoral laws”.

He charged all parents and guardians to rein in their children and wards during, before and after the elections so that they will not become willing instrument of destruction in the hands of desperate political gladiators. “We must ensure that Ondo State remains peaceful and safe at all times, for that is what we are reputed for”.

Governor Aiyedatiwa appreciated the security agencies across the State for their professional conducts, soliciting for more support for the protection of lives and property of the people of Ondo State.

Earlier in his sermon titled ” Thanksgiving”, the General overseer, Agape Christian Ministries, Bishop Felix Adejumo charged the congregation to always thank God at all times.

He urged the Governor to be full of gratitude for the journey thus far. He also encouraged all service men and political holders to tremble, faithful and serve God.

“Today, we celebrate the life of the one God has chosen to lead us in the State. Your assumption of office as a divine selection”, he concluded.

In his address, the Commander 32, Artillery Brigade Akure, Major General John Lar, the armed forces remembrance day is celebrated on the 15th January of every year to celebrate Nigeria’s departed compatriots and honour the living veterans.

“The remembrance day is to honour those who served and sacrificed for the peace of the nation. The days also mark the end of the civil war and a national day to honour and extend gratitude to the military personnel who have dedicated their lives to the nation”.

He added that the celebration is a way of acknowledging and support the families and loved ones of fallen heroes and veterans, to promote patriotism and educating the younger generations.

Congratulating the Governor on his 60th birthday, he wished him long life and grace to lead the State to the the promised land.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Deaconess Lola Fagbemi said the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration will climax with Final Parade, laying of wreaths and empowerment of widows at the Government Cenotaph, Akure on Wednesday.

The bible reading was taken by the Commander 32, Artillery Brigade Akure, Brigadier General John Lar, who read from the book of Isaiah chapter 40 verse 28 – 31.

The highlight of the event included prayers for the families of the fallen heroes as well as prayers for Governor Aiyedatiwa on his 60th birthday celebration.

In attendance were; The Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, State Chairman of APC, Engr Ade Adetimehin, Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Head of Service, Mr Bayo Philip, members of the State Executive Council, members of Ondo State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, traditional rulers, religious leaders, heads of security agencies, among other eminent personalities.
