Akure-Owena Golden Lions raise the bar of humanitarian service

The Lions Club has again been commended for impacting the well-being of the less-privileged and the downtrodden.

Beneficiaries of Feeding The Hungry Programme organised by Akure Owena Golden Lions Club held at the Hope Orphanage, Irese Road Akure lauded the Lions Club for putting humanity at the centre of its activities.

A widow, Mrs Wuraola Alofe who claimed to have been a beneficiary of the kind gestures of Lions Clubs for more than a decade out of the over 30years she had been in widowhood, urged persons of means in the society to emulate members of the Lions Clubs.

In her message delivered via Zoom from her base in the United States of America, the President of Akure-Owena Golden Lions Club, Lion Chief Yemi Ogunla, outlined the various service activities which the club had carried out during her tenure in 2023/2024 Lions Year.

“We in Akure-Owena Golden within this Lions Year have held Peace Poster Contest among secondary school students; carried out Feeding The Hungry Project, Free Eyes Screening with Free Eyes Glasses, Tree Planting in the environment , Participation at New Voices District Programmes and many others.”, the President said.

In her remarks, the Pioneer District Governor of District 404A-4, Nigeria, Lion Dr Kofoworola Jegede, PMJF, NLCF, LCIP who is one of the frontline members of the club, said the five pillars upon which the humanitarian services of the Lions Clubs International rest are the panacea to the problems confronting humanity.

Dr Jegede, a Public Health Specialist and Global Leadership Trainer, who listed the Lions Clubs areas of focus as, “Sight, Hunger Relief, Diabetes, Childhood Cancer and Environmental Health”, said issues around these critical areas are the major impediments of global human capital development.

She therefore called on women professionals in the immediate community of Akure-Owena Golden Lions Club to join the club to scale-up efforts at making life meaningful for the entire populace.
