The Customs Area Controller of the Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Frank Onyeka, has emphasized the numerous benefits of the B’Odogwu trade facilitation tool, noting its role in enhancing revenue generation, improving trade efficiency, and strengthening security measures.
This comes as he was recently recognized with an award for outstanding performance in his duties.
Onyeka, who has remained committed to boosting revenue collection, explained that the future application of Big Data Analytics, a key feature of the B’Odogwu system, has significantly aided the Service in intercepting illicit trade while also promoting legitimate trade activities.
He pointed out that integrating advanced technologies such as Blockchain, the E-Customs platform, and Artificial Intelligence has not only improved the speed of cargo clearance but has also reinforced the Service’s dedication to global best practices.
He recalled how these innovations played a vital role in the pilot phase of the B’Odogwu initiative at the PTML Command, adding that his Command is set to adopt the system due to its proven success and impact.
Speaking on the revenue performance of the Command, Onyeka disclosed that the Tincan Island Command had already generated ₦86 billion for the month of January alone.
He expressed confidence that with the right approach and commitment, the Command is on track to not only meet but exceed its revenue target for the year.
During the 2025 World Customs Day celebration, which was themed “Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity,” Onyeka reaffirmed that trade facilitation remains a key priority of the Nigeria Customs Service.
He noted that the Tincan Island Port Command has been implementing innovative approaches aimed at streamlining processes, reducing delays, and enhancing the ease of doing business.
He further explained that the adoption of the Unified Customs Management System, referred to as B’Odogwu, will ensure the full automation of procedures, improving transparency while reducing human interference in Customs operations.
Emphasizing the need for effective collaboration, Onyeka stressed the importance of continuous stakeholder engagement, calling for stronger partnerships with Terminal Operators, Freight Forwarding Associations, Shipping Companies, and Heads of Regulatory Agencies.
According to him, such synergy is critical to ensuring seamless trade operations at the Command.
He urged his officers and personnel to remain dedicated to their responsibilities, maintaining professionalism, consistency, and innovative service delivery in line with the principles of the 2025 International Customs Day.
