As Ondo State celebrates its 50th anniversary, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr Johnson Alabi, has emphasised the critical role of the state’s mineral resources in driving economic growth and improving livelihoods.
Speaking in an interview, Alabi said Ondo has made remarkable progress in infrastructure, healthcare, housing and transportation since its creation in 1976.
He stressed that fully harnessing the state’s mineral wealth is essential to taking development to the next level.
“Our aim is to convert the resources we have into tangible benefits for the people of Ondo State. The resources are here; it is up to us to use them effectively,” he said.
Alabi paid tribute to the state’s forefathers, noting that many who were present at Ondo’s creation are still alive and continue to inspire today’s generation.
“We owe them a debt of gratitude for setting the pace. Their achievements place a heavy responsibility on us to do more,” he said.
He also emphasised that Ondo State is renowned for quality and integrity, values that have endured over the decades.
“These traits form the core of our culture and tradition. My ministry is committed to leveraging all available resources to drive economic growth. Ondo State is faring well, and the future promises even greater progress,” he added.
Alabi urged residents to remain optimistic about the state’s future. “My message to the people of Ondo is to be hopeful. Tomorrow holds good for us in this state,” he said.
Speaking on the administration of Governor Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, he described it as special, noting that the governor’s rise to power reflects divine favour.
“With our support, I am confident he will transform the future of Ondo State before leaving office,” Alabi stated.
