The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has reiterated his commitment to workers’ welfare and effective labour administration with the presentation of utility vehicles to major labour unions in the state.
The gesture, aimed at improving mobility and strengthening engagement between government and organised labour, saw the presentation of vehicles to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP).
While symbolically handing over the vehicle keys, the Governor noted that the support would ease movement for union executives, enhance coordination of members’ activities and promote timely and efficient service delivery across the state.
Presenting the first vehicle to the leadership of the NLC, the government described the labour movement as an integral part of governance, stressing that workers are central to the implementation of government policies and programmes.
“With this, I am sure you won’t deliver late and you won’t deliver short,” the governor said, adding that improved mobility would strengthen collaboration between labour unions and government institutions.
A similar presentation was made to the TUC, with assurances that the vehicle would aid effective movement and improve operational efficiency in the discharge of union responsibilities.
The Nigeria Union of Teachers also benefited from the initiative, with the governor recalling his background as a former teacher and describing the union as a constituency close to his heart.
He expressed optimism that the vehicle would enhance service delivery and support the union’s activities in the 2026 year and beyond.
He commended the various unions for their organisation and coordination, noting that the vehicles would reduce logistical challenges during engagements with government offices and ensure that union executives could move easily when advocating for their members.
The governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to maintain open communication, collaboration and mutual respect with organised labour, stressing that the welfare of workers and pensioners remains a priority of his government.
Union leaders present at the event expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and symbolic of a responsive and worker-friendly administration.
