Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reiterated his administration’s readiness to collaborate with investors and private partners in order to strengthen healthcare delivery and enhance the overall well-being of citizens.
The Governor made the pledge at the commissioning of Minds Medica, a world-class specialist hospital for mental health care and drug addiction rehabilitation established by Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye and his wife, Prof. Olufunkae Adeyeye in Ondo West Local Government Area of the State.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, who described the facility as a “significant milestone” in the collective pursuit of quality and holistic healthcare for the people of Ondo State and beyond, emphasized that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of ensuring the security, safety, and well-being of citizens.
“Security and health are everybody’s business. We need the collaboration of investors and private partners to make meaningful progress. What we are witnessing today is a shining example of how individuals can contribute to the advancement of society,” the Governor said.
He commended the vision and commitment of the founders of Mind Medica, noting that the facility’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, advanced diagnostic tools, and serene therapeutic environment will redefine mental healthcare and drug rehabilitation services in the state.
Aiyedatiwa pledged the support of the Ondo State Government for the sustainability of the hospital, while also calling on well-meaning individuals, organizations, and stakeholders to rally behind the project to ensure its success.
“This initiative is not just about profit; it is about giving hope, healing, and restoration to people struggling with mental health issues and drug addiction. On behalf of my administration, I pledge every possible support to this vision, and I personally will also contribute,” the Governor assured.
The Governor further urged residents of Ondo West and adjoining communities to take advantage of the services offered at Mind Medical and to collectively help break the stigma surrounding mental health challenges and drug addiction.
He also charged the management and staff of the hospital to remain committed to their mission, guided by compassion, empathy, and professionalism.
“Today, as we open the doors of this facility, we are also opening a new chapter of hope in the lives of countless individuals and families. Let us work together to support this noble venture and build a healthier society,” he concluded.
Earlier in his remarks, the founder of Minds Medical, Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for living up to the expectations of the people through his administration’s commitment to health and social development.
Adeyeye explained that the inspiration behind establishing the facility was borne out of a personal encounter. He recalled how he once came across a mentally unstable woman who had roamed the streets for over 10 years. Out of compassion, he took the woman in for treatment.
“After just one month of medical care, she began to regain her memory and even remembered her relatives. Over time, she fully recovered. That experience made me resolve to establish a mental health facility that would look after people who are mentally unstable and help those addicted to drugs live drug-free lives,” he said.
The founder added that the centre has engaged specialists from across the country and outside the country to ensure excellent healthcare delivery.
According to him, the hospital is fully equipped to handle specialist medical needs as well as provide holistic rehabilitation services for individuals battling drug addiction, with the aim of restoring hope and dignity to many families.
The Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Dr. Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, in his goodwill message, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for the various developmental projects across the state. He also thanked Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye for setting up the hospital and rehabilitation centre, noting that the initiative would greatly benefit the people of Ondo.
The ceremony was rounded off with an inspection of the facility by the governor, accompanied by traditional rulers and other dignitaries.
In attendance were: Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Commissioner for Regional Integration and Diaspora Relations, Otunba Wale Akinlosotu, Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, members of Ondo State House of Assembly, Local Government Chairmen, among others.
