The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has reiterated his commitment towards ensuring the security and welfare of students in Ondo State.

Governor Aiyedatiwa while playing host to the management team of Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), gave this assurance.

Governor Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the vital role FUTA plays in shaping the intellectual landscape of Ondo State.

He further reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to enhancing security measures within and around the FUTA campus, emphasizing the paramount importance of safeguarding the welfare of all citizens.

The governor said; “FUTA is a source of pride for us. Although it is a federal university but it is located here in Ondo State, it actively contributes to the service and economic development of the state. We want to express our appreciation for the institution’s commendable efforts. Its alumni are achieving remarkable success worldwide”

“Regarding the security concerns raised, rest assured that we are committed to continuous improvement. We take pride in Ondo State being one of the safest states in Nigeria. We will closely examine FUTA’s security needs and take necessary measures to enhance safety on campus and outside campus, we want to assure you that the security of our people is the primary responsibility of this administration” he added

Addressing infrastructure concerns, Governor Aiyedatiwa pledged to prioritize road improvements around the FUTA North and South Gates, recognizing the critical need for safer transportation routes for students and residents alike.

He assured FUTA authorities of his administration’s readiness to collaborate closely and provide necessary support to address the institution’s pressing needs.

“We would inform those in charge to visit the roads leading to the school, particularly the North and South Gates. Despite our limited resources, we will explore potential solutions. Regarding internal roads inside campus, we will assess the situation and provide support as needed. If there is a department responsible for infrastructure within the campus, we encourage them to conduct an assessment and submit a formal request to us”

Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his dedication to fostering a robust partnership with FUTA, urging continued dialogue and collaboration to ensure the fulfillment of shared objectives.

“Let’s maintain a strong relationship, as we are committed to supporting you. We look forward to receiving your memo outlining your requests so that we can address them promptly.” He added

Earlier, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of FUTA, expressed gratitude for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s receptiveness to their concerns and his ongoing commitment to student safety and welfare.

She emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between FUTA and the state government in addressing critical issues affecting the university and its surrounding community, reaffirming FUTA’s dedication to excellence in education and technology.

The meeting had in attendance; The Deputy governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, Chief of staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Head of service Mr Bayo Philip, SA on health, Dr Bunmi Ilawole, SA on information and strategy, Akogun Gbenga Omole, among others.
