The Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has praised the members of the Visitation Panel tasked with reviewing the operations of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.

He described their work as a vital contribution to strengthening the institution’s foundation and achieving academic excellence.

The commendation came on Monday during a courtesy visit by the panel to the Governor’s office in Akure, where they formally presented a detailed, two-volume report outlining their findings and recommendations on the university’s I performance and administrative structure.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude for the panel’s objectivity and dedication, noting that although he had not yet read the full report, its depth and thoroughness were already apparent. He especially commended the panel’s focus on institutional roles rather than individual personalities, emphasizing the importance of sustainable systems and long-term development.

“What pleases me most is your focus on positions, not personalities. That’s how strong institutions are built—by creating structures that outlast individuals,” the Governor said. He added that effective systems must guide anyone who steps into leadership at UNIMED.

He assured the panel that the report would not be ignored, promising a detailed review and timely implementation of its key recommendations. “Your work will lead to visible outcomes. The true reward lies in seeing your efforts translate into meaningful changes in our university system,” he said.

Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s vision of transforming UNIMED into a world-class institution. “We aim to build a university that stands tall globally—an institution known for academic excellence, innovation, and quality healthcare training,” he stated.

Earlier, the panel chairman, Professor Victor Olumekun, highlighted the team’s rigorous work over the past eight weeks. He said the panel examined both the assigned terms of reference and additional areas critical to institutional advancement.

“Our review was focused on systems and processes, not individuals. We believe that each position within the university must be governed by clear structures, accountability, and performance benchmarks,” Professor Olumekun explained.

He further recommended the adoption of annual performance reviews in the university system, suggesting this would foster continuous improvement and ensure administrators stay aligned with the university’s objectives throughout their tenures.

In attendance were: The Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Head of service, Mr Bayo Philip
