The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Ondo State Government have called on security officers to enhance their strategic communication and leadership abilities to effectively tackle growing security threats across the state.
The appeal was made by the NSCDC State Commandant, Mr. Oluyemi Ibiloye, during a two-day capacity-building workshop held Thursday in Akure. The event, themed “Strengthening Personal Effectiveness, Strategic Communication and Leadership Skills for Enhanced Security Operations,” focused on equipping law enforcement personnel with essential tools for modern security operations.
Ibiloye noted that the evolving and increasingly complex nature of security challenges requires a shift from traditional methods to more dynamic, strategic approaches.
“Security threats are advancing rapidly, and public expectations are rising just as fast. It is no longer enough to be operationally prepared—we must also be personally effective, strategically aware, and emotionally intelligent,” he said.
He emphasized the need for officers to adopt leadership styles that inspire trust, foster collaboration, and drive impactful change within their communities.
“The badge we wear is not just a symbol of authority; it’s a daily call to lead, serve, and make life-impacting decisions,” Ibiloye added.
Also speaking at the event, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Taiwo Fasoroti—represented by Senior Special Adviser on Security Matters, Mr. Olugbenga Atiba—commended the NSCDC for organizing the training. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies, highlighting the recent donation of 50 patrol vehicles and communication equipment.
Mrs. Rita Micheal, one of the facilitators, delivered lectures on resilience building, crisis response, and effective scene control. She stressed that regular training and retraining of personnel remain critical in addressing insecurity nationwide.
Participants at the workshop included officers from the Police, Army, DSS, FRSC, NDLEA, Customs, Immigration, Federal Fire Service, and the Amotekun Corps.
