The Deji of Akure Kingdom has ordered that all markets, stalls, and shops within the city be closed on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in honour of this year’s Aheregbe Festival.
A statement issued by the monarch’s Chief Press Secretary, Adeyeye Michael, explained that the directive aligns with the long-standing customs surrounding the celebration, which holds deep cultural value for the people of Akure.
The monarch emphasised that no trading or shop activity would be permitted during the event. He, however, noted that pharmacy outlets and patent medicine stores would be allowed to operate due to their essential role in healthcare delivery.
The palace further assured residents and visitors that the observance of the festival would not disrupt the movement of people or vehicles across the city.
The Aheregbe Festival is regarded as one of Akure’s most cherished traditional observances, attracting strict compliance each year.
