The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has announced that preparations are in place for its highly anticipated 7th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference (NDC), scheduled to take place on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Festival Hotels, Amuwo Odofin, Festac Town, Lagos State.
In a statement signed by Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, FNLI, HCFPSP, the union reaffirmed its commitment to recognizing excellence and dedication within the maritime sector.
As part of this commitment, MWUN has introduced a prestigious awards ceremony to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the industry’s growth and development.
The awards, categorized into various segments, will be presented during the event, and all recipients are encouraged to arrive promptly to ensure a smooth and successful ceremony.
Additionally, under the visionary leadership of Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adeyanju, MWUN has meticulously compiled and documented its history from 1996 to the present in a landmark publication titled History of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, 1996 to 2024.
This historic book—the first of its kind in the industry—serves as a valuable resource for educating future generations about the union’s journey, struggles, and milestones. The official launch of this publication will take place at the conference.
Furthermore, in accordance with the union’s constitution, which permits a maximum of two four-year terms, the current leadership has successfully completed its tenure.
Demonstrating a commitment to democratic values and continuity, Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adeyanju will officially hand over leadership in a seamless and peaceful transition during the National Delegates Conference, ensuring the stability and progress of MWUN’s legacy in advocating for maritime workers.
