By Joy Enamuna

The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, has extended yuletide greetings to stakeholders in the nation’s maritime industry, commending their contributions to the sector’s progress in 2025.

Dr. Mobereola described the year as “a good one” for the industry and assured that the agency would intensify efforts to make 2026 even more productive for operators and stakeholders.

Highlighting some of NIMASA’s achievements in 2025, the DG pointed to the country’s sustained zero-tolerance for piracy, the deposition of three Instruments of Accession to International Maritime Organization (IMO) conventions signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the maintenance of industrial harmony, and Nigeria’s election into the Category C Council of the IMO.

“The year 2025 has been a good one for our industry as once again, we have not recorded a single piracy attack in our waters in a whole calendar year. Nigeria was also able to deposit three Instruments of Accession to IMO Conventions that were signed by President Bola Tinubu GCFR. We have been able to maintain industrial harmony in the sector, all of which culminated in Nigeria’s election into the Category C Council of the International Maritime Organization,” Dr. Mobereola said.

He expressed appreciation to stakeholders, saying their cooperation and commitment had been instrumental to the agency’s achievements.

“We couldn’t have done this without our stakeholders who have contributed in various ways in the course of their operations during the year. We see you, we thank you and we felicitate with you during this yuletide season,” he added.

Dr. Mobereola urged maritime operators to embrace the new year with optimism, promising that NIMASA would strengthen its efforts in maritime safety, security, environmental protection, and adherence to relevant conventions and protocols.

“To whom much is given, much is definitely expected. You can therefore be sure of an increased momentum in our resolve to sustain maritime safety, security, environmental protection, and adherence to relevant conventions and protocols with renewed vigour,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, the DG acknowledged the support of President Tinubu, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, industry stakeholders, NIMASA management and staff, as well as all Nigerians, while wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
