Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Segun Omoyofunmi, has reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening youth participation in community health governance.
He gave the assurance while playing host to Get Healthy Africa Initiative (GHAi) team during a courtesy visit to brief the Ministry on its recent activities and findings across several local government areas under the Next-Gen Health Governance Project supported by the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund.
Omoyofunmi, who warmly received the delegation in his office, expressed appreciation for the organization’s dedication to improving health outcomes among young people. He acknowledged GHAi’s consistency in returning valuable feedback to the government after its engagements, describing the gesture as rare, commendable, and highly beneficial for informed policymaking.
The Commissioner praised the group’s fact-finding mission across Ondo West, Akure South, Okitipupa, Ifedore, and Odigbo, emphasizing that gathering firsthand evidence from communities is a challenging but necessary process.
According to him, such data-driven insights are crucial for shaping responsive health interventions and enhancing accountability systems at the grassroots level.
Earlier in his address, the Coordinator, Next-Gen Health Governance Project, Mr Faysol Oluwakemi, who led the team to the Commissioner’s office emphasised the support of the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund and also appreciated the commissioner for granting the project full support and audience during the last workshop organized under the community Health Governance and Youth Engagement Project.
He noted that the Ministry’s active collaboration contributed immensely to the success of the program and reinforced the state’s commitment to strengthening youth participation in development processes.
He further stressed that that the youths are the supporters of The Next-Gen Health Governance Project, adding that their involvement has continued to drive wider acceptance, transparency, and community ownership of health interventions across the state.
He opined that young people must not only be beneficiaries of health initiatives but active contributors to their implementation.
